Ref's weren't really supposed to do it, but as they discussed and discussed it, the replays from TBS were being played over and over on the tv at the scorer's table and they gave a look.<br /><br />The TBS guys even zoomed in a little bit on McHale's foot. To this day, I recall it being so close to the line you couldn't fit a razor blade between his sole and the line. It was virtually impossible to call.<br /><br />The Garden would have killed the refs if they had called it a two. At that point it was almost like a "tie goes to the runner" situation. They HAD to give to them!<br /><br />What a great game. Unfortunately my last memory of that series was the Celts, only down five, at Detroit, with less than a minute left. The announcers were speaking like the game was over. But Bird got fouled and could have cut it to three. And he missed both free throws. Then Artis Gilmore was in the game and he was just a shell of his former self.<br /><br />So sad.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
