CELTICS MAKE IT OFFICIAL: MONTROSS IN THE FOLD
The Eric Montross deal is officially done. The Celtics announced yesterday they have signed the first-round draft pick to a multiyear contract.
Terms were not disclosed, but the 7-foot center is believed to have signed an 11-year deal worth $17 million to $20 million, with a third-year termination clause. He is expected to earn $800,000 the first year.
The signing ends several days of intensified negotiating and speculation as to when Montross would sign. Montross and his father, agent W. Scott Montross, came to Boston Tuesday to iron out the deal, and in fact, sources indicated that it had been signed and notarized then but that "minor verbiage" remained to be worked out. Apparently, that was accomplished yesterday.
