MCDANIEL HAS A LOT IN RESERVE

January 23, 1995

Lost in all the commotion the last few days has been the work of Xavier McDaniel. The X-humed forward has been a key reserve the last three games after sitting out five straight games and seven of eight.

McDaniel played 33 minutes against the Hawks Saturday night, his third-longest stint of the season. He had 13 points and was a key player in Boston's second-quarter surge.

In the last three games, McDaniel has averaged 13.7 points in just less than 26 minutes a game. Before that, he had fallen out of the rotation and urged the Celtics to trade him.

McDaniel's return, however, has coincided with a Celtic losing streak. Boston has dropped four in a row, matching its longest streak of the year. It plays Orlando tomorrow night.

"I don't know what it's going to take to get us going," McDaniel said. "I don't know if it takes benching guys until they get the point or what. We definitely need everybody to play and help each other out."
