The 1985-86 Portland Trailblazers arrived in Boston for an early December game with a 12-10 record, losers of 8 of their last 12. On the road, they were 3-6. They finished the season with a mere 40 wins.
By contrast, the 1985-86 Boston Celtics entered the game 17-2, with a home mark of 9-0. Since the inception of the Bird era, winning on the road in Beantown had proven to be one of the more difficult tasks around the league. Yet Portland won, and won going away.
Tomorrow night the Boston Celtics host the Sacramento Kings. Eerily, this year's Celtics are again 17-2, and undefeated at home. The 2007-08 Kings are even worse than the 1985-86 Portland Trailblazers. The Kings are 8-12 for the year, but 0-8 at home, and losers of 4 of their last 6 games.
Will history repeat itself?
No.
I'll tell you why tomorrow.
