Cs Try to Awaken from Winter Slumber

I’ve spent the last few days explaining why I think the Celtics skid is the result of an emotional let down more than it is anything else. The Celtics had been playing at a breakneck pace for 32 games, and beating everyone in sight. After the Pistons victory, they looked at the schedule, saw no one worthy of their attention, and decided it was time for a long winter's nap.

In theory, that shouldn’t be a problem tonight.

In theory.

The Blazers have one of the better records in the West. They are young and athletic. They don’t lack in energy or desire.

Sounds like a classic statement game for both teams.

The Cs would build a 20-point lead by halftime of such games earlier in the season.

In Ali-Frazier I (the first game against the Pistons), I predicted the Cs would do the same. Instead they came out flat.

Tonight Rajon Rondo may not play, and, even if he does, he’s got a bad back and bad hamstring. Ray Allen will likely continue his shooting doldrums. Pierce may or may not show up. Garnett will show up and bring it with full force, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll dominate the glass. Since the Cs have been beaten up on the glass over the last several games, no glass could well spell doom again.
