Doc Concedes Celtics Awaiting PG Buyout

In an interview on WEEI, Doc Rivers conceded what everyone else had surmised. Doc said the Celtics have a short list of veteran point guards they would like to pursue, and are anticipating that one of them will become available via a buyout at some point this season.

He didn't name names or provide a timeline, but an article speculates that the Cs are targeting Sam Cassell.

A Celtics acquisition of the Clippers' point guard would reunite Cassell with Kevin Garnett. Together the two led the Minnesota Timberwolves to the 2004 Western Conference Finals. Many pundits still believe the Timberwolves would have won that series had Cassell not suffered an injury.

Any such reunion would no doubt be considered a chance for KG and Cassell to address "unfinished business," or another chance to bring home what they left behind four years ago.
