Go LA? Go LA?

May 28, 1991
AUBURN HILLS, Mich.

The chant started late in the game, when the outcome was not in doubt.

"Go LA! Go LA!" the Pistons fans said as their team was going up in flames, dropping its fourth straight to Chicago, 115-94. The Bulls heard it and didn't appreciate it.

You know the history. In 1982, when the Sixers pulled off an improbable win in Game 7 against the Celtics, the Garden fans chanted, "Beat LA! Beat LA!" The Sixers didn't, but they said they appreciated the gesture.

Yesterday, Chicago coach Phil Jackson said, "It was quite a switch. I was disappointed in the Detroit fans because of that."

Michael Jordan, who has been critical of the Pistons' style of play, added, "It's very typical." Jordan hadn't won any fans in Detroit by saying the league would be better off and basketball better served if the Pistons were dethroned.
