Hondo's Take on Three-Pointers

Havlicek, Boston's first 20,000-point scorer, scored all of his 26,395 points for the Celtics.

Havlicek scored more points for Boston than Larry Bird, Kevin McHale or anyone else, even though he played before the NBA adopted the 3-point shot.

"I really liked the 3-point shot when it first came into being," Havlicek said last night, "but then after about two years, it seemed as though the game that I knew disappeared and everything revolved around the 3-point shot.

"I've been an advocate of not getting rid of it, but only using it in the last two minutes of each quarter."

Havlicek believes limiting 3-point shooting would develop the midrange game, but he doesn't expect the NBA to make any changes.
