Unfinished Business

Now that Sam Cassell and Kevin Garnett have been reunited in Boston, there will be lots of talk of "unfinished business."

Cassell and Garnett were first teamed up during the 2003-04 NBA season, the year KG won his only MVP award. The Wolves got off to a 37-15 start, and Cassell, who had posted 12 double-digit fourth quarters in the first half of the season, was named a reserve on the All-Star team.

Down the stretch, the Wolves winning formula consisted of KG dominating for three quarters, and Cassell and Latrell Sprewell taking over in the fourth. The Wolves ended the year with the best record in the West, and drew Denver in the first round.

Cassell scored 40 points in the Wolves opening game victory, and 26 more in the game-five finale, as Minnesota polished off Denver 4 games to 1.

Cassell began the next series against Sacramento by again pouring in forty points. But with the Wolves up 2 games to 1, Cassell suffered injuries to his hip and back. Until then, the Wolves were on a roll. More than a few NBA pundits were predicting trouble for the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals.

But without a healthy Sam Cassell, the Lakers dispatched the Wolves in six games.

Timberwolves fans and Timberwolves players, including KG and Cassell, were left with only "what might have beens" if Sam had stayed healthy.

Now KG and Cassell can focus on what will be.
