#33 to #34: "End it on Tuesday"

I don't know if Larry Bird will talk to Paul Pierce before game 6, but I sure hope he does, because the message would be clear: "This is your time. Take advantage of the home crowd and let your God-given abilities do the rest. End this series on Tuesday."

The 1986 Celtics were one of the most talented teams in NBA history, and yet it took them six games to close out the Houston Rockets, and that didn't happen until Larry Bird recorded his last magical game in the NBA Finals.

Paul Pierce can relate.

The 2008 Celtics aren't as talented or as deep as the 1986 squad, but they aren't exactly in short supply either. What they do lack is more than one closer, and that's where Paul Pierce comes in.

Game 6 will come down to Paul Pierce getting his teammates involved early, getting himself into a rhythm, getting the team off to a good start, and keeping the crowd loud and energized.

Once upon a time it wasn't beyond the pale to compare Paul Pierce to Kobe Bryant. If the Celtics defeat the Lakers in convincing fashion tonight, and Paul Pierce is responsible, as we all expect him to be, Celtic Nation will be more than happy to begin revisiting those comparisons.

The '86 Rockets blew out the Celtics in Game 5 of that year's finals. What we saw yesterday was the best by the Lakers and they are in deep trouble. If the refs call the foul on Bryant yesterday, quite possibly the Lakers season ends yesterday. The refs didn't call the foul on him so we'll never know. I predicted before the series ended the Celtics would win in 6 with Paul Pierce as MVP and I think that will certainly come true.
