Kobe the Conqueror

One year ago Kobe Bryant first made public his desire to be traded from the Los Angeles Lakers.

On opening night, Kobe was booed at Staples by the Lakers fans.

But times have changed in the City of Angels, and, if you believe what ESPN has been reporting, Laker fans are now prepared to celebrate Kobe as the Romans celebrated Julius Caesar for conquering Gaul and extending the Roman Empire all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.

It seems Jerry West isn’t the only one still bitter about losing all of those Finals to the Celtics (and you actually believe West played NO role in the Lakers landing Gasol???). Four generations of Laker Fans, former players, personnel, and executives are all unified in their mission to defeat the green.

And if the Lakers succeed, Kobe will be hailed as the perhaps the greatest Laker of all time.

Wow.

You know, I will be happy, very happy, if the Green wins. I certainly will pay that irksome relative of mine a call if the Big Three walk off the court as champions this June.

But Hail Caesar?

That’s a little bit over the top, now don’t you think?
