Perkins as Loscutoff

It's easier to compare the current Celtics with the franchise's 1974 and '76 championship teams: KG is Dave Cowens, a relentless, take-no-prisoners, two-way board banger with an outside touch. Pierce is a better offensive version of Havlicek (though not as good all-around). Allen is White in his silky smoothness. Even Boston's earliest NBA champions of the late '50s and early '60s are a better fit: Garnett is Russell. Pierce is Heinsohn, cocky and offensive-minded. Allen is Sharman, fluid and fundamental, drop-dead accurate from the free throw line. Kendrick Perkins is Jim Loscutoff, the basher, the enforcer. (Rondo, however, is not Cousy.)

Not so sure about Jack McCallum's last point.

Speaking of Jack Mac, I miss Jackie Mac's weekly offerings. Her role at the Globe must have been diminished about the same time Peter May got bought out. Wait! I just read Wikipedia. Jackie Mac got bought out too.

Noooooooooo.

I thought it was odd she hadn't weighed in for a while.

Not Jackie Mac.

I loved Jackie Mac.

So she's been reduced to a talking head on Around the Horn and the occasional column for SI?

Man.

I might need therapy to deal with this.

Love the comparisons. I miss Jackie too. She was one of the best writers the Globe had. Now, Peter May I don't miss at all. The fact that Jakie had Red's respect is all you need to know about her writing.
