The James Posey Locker Room Celebration Interview

"Well, James, it's been a long journey. Can you talk a little bit about the phone call you received from Eddie House last summer encouraging you to sign with the Boston Celtics."

"Oh, man. I was so frustrated."

"Frustrated?"

"Yeah, I was sooooo frustrated!"

Teammates were jumping around, singing, dancing, pouring champagne and beer on each other, on him. But Mr. Posey, for the most part, still has his game face on and was living in the moment--the moment of getting snubbed by the 2007 free agent market.

The Boston Celtics still may re-sign James Posey.

But I'm not holding my breath.

The 2007-08 season represented the opportunity for James Posey to deliver a statement to the NBA.

This summer he plans to cash in, and anything short of a full MLE at max years probably won't get it done.

None of the teams making that offer really expect to get much, if anything, out of Pose at age 36. So the business decision is simply to think of paying Posey the full amount of the contract for two to three years of contribution.

The downside, of course, is that the team that lands him may be stuck with his contract for two years beyond when he's making regular, meaningful contributions. In the NBA, as in business, management figures it will cross that bridge when they get to it.

Bad contracts for two years or less can always be packaged into a larger deal.

Danny is smart to be careful in not bogging the team down with big contracts that will keep the team from signing its younger players in the future. I really want Posey, but I also don't want to overpay him to the point where we are stuck with an albatross of a contract for a player not producing. If Posey chooses to go elsewhere, Danny needs to make an offer to Tony who would fill in for Posey as a defensive stopper.

I like Tony Allen.

I'd also give Kirk Snyder a look in camp.

He's very rugged.

I'm also hoping for Chris Andersen to back up Perk.

If we don't land the birdman, I'm going to take that as a bad omen for the rest of the summer.
