Celtics Beware: Kobe Ain't No LeBron

Orange County Register, June 3

"They talk about dealing with LeBron," McMillan said. "But Kobe's just different."

And that's why you should like the Lakers.

Bryant and Phil Jackson have lost only one Finals, and that was in `04, when Karl Malone was hurt and the fabric of the empire came apart. Jackson will find defensive combinations on one end. Bryant will take care of the other.

In 10 of 15 playoff games Bryant has shot 50 percent or better. He kept coming at San Antonio even though he got to the line just nine times in five games. He might do that in the first half of Game 1 on Thursday. James shot 90 free throws against Boston, and the slashing Hawks had 68 more attempts than Boston did. The Celtics are third in playoff fouls, behind Utah and Denver _ Bryant's first two opponents.

"He's on a mission," McMillan said. "He knows people think he won his first (three) titles because of Shaq (Shaquille O'Neal). He's playing like he won't be denied."

You can use all your fingers counting reasons why Boston should win, but two eyes tell you the ever-dramatic Bryant is building toward an ultimate conquest, and Boston is the perfect Mt. Suribachi.

Lakers in seven.

Apparently hindsight is not 20/20, but 20/hilarious. Kobe ain't no Lebron indeed. I agree. Except it should have started, "Celtics Breathe Easy..."
