Cowens, a fine swimmer in high school, negotiated a one-mile segment of the Ohio River because he grew tired of waiting for the ferry. See Cowens and buddy Guidugli prop open the door at a bar near Boston's Fenway Park and bombard a heralded rookie named Bird with tightly packed snowballs because, Guidugli says, "We liked giving Bird sh*t."
"He always had that little boy left in him," Guidugli says. "He did all of these crazy things. But hey, it's probably better to flip out when you're young than when you're 60. Let's just say Dave didn't always do what people expected him to do."
