The Mark Acres Chronicles

June 28, 1987

Because of the signing moratorium, general manager Jan Volk says the Celtics are remaining "flexible" with regard to their participation in the LA summer league, but the impasse will not eliminate their rookie camp, which, if necessary, will be stocked with (traditional) free agents.

The Celtics will send a squad whose heart will consist of Greg Kite, Fred Roberts, Conner Henry, Sam Vincent, Rick Carlisle, new free agent signee Mark Acres and perhaps Darren Daye (who will be married Aug. 2) to Los Angeles for seven games in seven nights beginning Aug. 6. Acres is a 6-10 Oral Roberts grad who has been in Europe for the past two seasons. Acres will be at the rookie camp, which begins Aug. 2 at Brandeis. Other players will be added over the summer.

It would be too bad for everyone if the signing moratorium were to ruin the rookie camp, because a session with Reggie Lewis, Brad Lohaus, Tom Sheehey, Choo Kennedy, David Butler and Acres would be very competitive.
