What was Bill Walton Doing in 1984?

This Blog's effort at seeing what the Big-Red, Dead-Head was up to in the year before the Celtics heisted him from da Clipjoint.
November 1984

When we start James Donaldson and Bill Walton, we're really starting two centers," Lynam said. "Marques gives us the all-purpose forward we need to go with those two. He's also a 'go to' player late in the game.

"Bridgeman is an excellent player off the bench. He can play both big guard and small forward. Two-position guys like him are incredibly valuable.

"Last year, Jerome Whitehead backed up Donaldson and Walton at center. But he couldn't play forward if Bill was hurt. Catchings can play center and forward."

The trade did more than strengthen a team that was 30-52 a year ago. It gave the Clippers an identity in Los Angeles as something other than an expansion team fleeing San Diego. "Clippers" may not yet be a name with impact in Los Angeles, but Marques Johnson is.
