The POB Wingspan

The other night Patrick O'Bryant launched a Russellesque hook shot from six-feet out. It went in. Garbage time. So no big deal. Well, except for the fact that when fully stretched out his reach appeared otherworldly.

So I did a little research, and that was the same conclusion reached by Draft Express:

Patrick O’Bryant has the type of body that will always attract NBA attention. O’Bryant is legitimately 7 feet tall, and has an outstanding frame. Despite already weighing in at 260 pounds, O’Bryant has plenty of room to add weight. While O'Bryant doesn't appear particularly athletic at first glance, he is that and more when you consider just how big he is. He possesses a 7’5 wingspan and a 9’4 standing reach, freakish even for NBA standards. By the time he is done developing, he could be one of the more physically imposing big men in the NBA.

The article goes on describe how POB is a classic late bloomer, but questions his motor. Based on physical gifts alone, I would not consider cutting, moving or otherwise giving up on this guy to make room for another big. We have a surplus of wings. They should be moved first, if possible.

POB is still only 22.

POB is a project and has a ton of potential. There has always been a question about his work ethic and motivation but maybe a year of KG will cure that. He is intriguing! At 22, he is worth keeping around to see if he develops.
