1981-82 Boston Celtics
It won't be a mysterious case of the Hellenic College flu, as some have predicted, but the Celtics are expected to dance around their roster probelm by placing guard Terry Duerod on the injured reserve list before tonight's game with the Kansas City Kings.
Before leaving Boston yesterday, coach Bill Fitch said, "I'm going to talk to Red (general manager Red Auerbach) and do it tomorrow. We'll probably take all 13 to Kansas City, and, when we get hold of Du, just put him on injured reserve for five days. He has a groin pull, and even if we wanted to trade him he wouldn't be able to go on it now anyway."
You don't need Carnac the Magnificent to figure this one out. Duerod's groin pull is nothing new, but it's a convienent excuse while Fitch and Auerbach try to buy a little more time. They want to watch M. L. Carr for a few games before making any final roster moves. However, if the Celtics persist in employing 13 men, somebody in the league office might get suspicious. There are no taxi squads in the NBA.
