Eight Assists, Seven Minutes to Go...in the Second Quarter

Rondo is taking this All-Star talk seriously. The best way to get yourself in the discussion is not just by filling up a box score, though that certainly won't be held against him if he keeps doing it consistently.

Instead, you'll find yourself more firmly ensconced at the table with the elite point guards by registering memorable performances against the others at the table, whether they play in your conference or not.

He was outplayed by Chris Paul, but rebounded (ha, pun half-intended) against Deron Williams. He's off to a good start tonight.

While I'm hesitant to ever place a rookie at the table with league's elite, apparently the NBA's punditry don't share this reticence, as at least two have argued that Derrick Rose is already the best point guard in the East.

Let's see how the battle unfolds in the final two quarters.
