Goose Egg

Quick.

Who's the leading scorer off the Celtics bench?

Answer:

Tony Allen (8.2).

Eddie House (7.5) is second.

Many Celtics fans might have answered Leon Powe. After all, he was second on the entire Celtics team in points-per-minute last season. This season, while the third leading scorer off the bench (6.9), he's scoring more points per minute than either Tony Allen or Eddie House.

Heading into the Christmas-Day tilt, Powe was 10-18 over his last five games, averaging just a couple of ticks more than seven-points per game during that stretch.

Against the Lakers, Powe played 10 minutes, and made no shot attempts.

That's right.

Zero.

This can't happen in big games, but somehow it did.

Doc gets some blame, as does the back-up point guard. Since I don't know if the back-up point guard is Tony Allen or Eddie House, I'll just generically throw blame at the position. Basically the second unit is rudderless.

I'd like to think Sam Cassell might help. But I don't think he'd help much.

Better that this happens now in December than it happens in late March or April.

Joe Smith and Mutombo both floated in the Herald.

C's need a 2-1 or 3-1 deal to free up some roster space.
