The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics by nine on Christmas Day, with Vladimir Radmanowhatsit watching all but a few seconds of the game from the Fakers' bench. For three weeks now, Radmanowhatsit has been demoted to the third string, behind Luke Walton and Trevor Ariza.
So does this mean that the European three-point shooter has no value?
Hardly.
If your name is Mitch Kupchak, you have the luxury of seeing how the rest of the season goes. The Lakers are already by far and away the best team in the West. They still have to play the Cavs twice and the Celtics once. Depending on how those games go and any injuries that crop up, Kupchak has an asset sitting on the bench that several other teams would love to get their hands on.
And since the NBA views the Lakers' as a charitable cause (how else do you justify the Gasol gift from last season?), there really is no telling what the Lakers might get in return.
Worse, Radmanowhatsit makes $6m per year, meaning the Lakers could get a first-rate contributor in return.
Sorry to add a kick in the head to the lump of coal we all received a couple of days ago.

Yeah I'm definitely wary of the moves that the Lakers and more so the Cavs will make later. NBATV giving up 24 hours of programming to celebrate Lebron's birthday makes me realize the league wants this to be his year.
