Based on their career averages, Antoine Walker owns the advantage in age, points per game, rebounds per game, assists per game, and steals per game, while Robert Horry has the advantage in height, blocks, turnovers, field-goal percentage, free-throw percentage, and three-point percentage.
Neither player plays much in the paint, which negates Horry's slight height advantage. Neither player would guard the Gasols and Dirks of the world with much success. So they are a push on that front, too. Horry has a reputation for hitting big shots in big games, and has somehow managed to win seven championship rings, which is nothing to sneeze at, to be sure.
Horry's problem is that he hasn't done much lately. You might be tempted to say the same thing about Walker. But it wouldn't be true. Horry posted double-digit in points once all of last year. Meanwhile, Employee #8 repeatedly posted double-digits in points last year, including ten games out of eleven, and frequently posted crooked numbers in the assist and rebound columns, too.
Verdict:
I'm giving the advantage to AW.
You want a spark off your bench? You want someone that is a skilled passer? You want someone who will play his heart out for the Celtics? You want someone who will ignite the Gahden? You want a playmaker on the second unit? AW still gives you all of that.
Yes, his skills have deteriorated, but as recently as last year he was still producing on a consistent basis. This year he hasn't played at all.
Danny needs to suck it up and make the phone call. At least bring the dude in for a work-out.
