Deja Vu, 1988

For those of you interested in Leprachaun history, Doc Rivers is not the only Celtics' head coach who has been charged with the task of integrating disparate personalities late in the season of a title contender. KC Jones was asked to do the same thing in 1988.

The previous year, the Lakers defeated the Celtics in six games to win the NBA championship. The 1988 Lakers looked even better, while the 1988 Celtics looked worse.

Solution?

In comes Artis Gilmore, out goes Greg Kite. In comes Jim Paxson, out goes Jerry Sichting. In comes a healthy Bill Walton for the first time in two years, at least healthy enough to run full court and mix it up in practice.

Bob Ryan tells us how it went.

Doc is also not the only Cs coach to play his starters 48 minutes a game either, and we all know how that went. (sigh)

Doc needs to start playing the rooks. Either that or go with BBD or LP at the 3, and more star berry at the 2.

Agree about the rooks, or playing a big at the 3. But Doc's so stubborn about his rotations. I wonder if PP speaking out about his minutes will do anything. Still, playing the Captain 40+ minutes every game just can't go on.

Yeah, you hit on a nerve. 48 minutes is ridiculous, especially in light of another nerve, KC running the starters into the ground.

I'd really like to see JR. But that won't happen until the last week of the season!!!
