The way Joe Smith tells it, the Celtics jumped the gun on the Mikki Moore signing because, as it turned out, not only did Smith want to get bought out, he wanted to play for the Celtics. This is odd because the day after the trade deadline, Smith told OKC reporters he didn't want to get bought out. He liked OKC, and had no reason to leave, he told the media.
Let's say he was just being politically correct. Why didn't he give his old friend KG a call and tell him he was working on a buyout, and have him convey that to Celtic management? Why did he wait until the very end to get a buyout? Would he have even sought a buyout but for the Ben Wallace injury?
When a player wants something badly enough, you'd think he wouldn't dilly-dally over it. Smith wanted to be a Celtic about as much as Mark Blount wants to rebound, and if Smith can't show any more initiative than he did in acting on his desire to play for Boston, did we really want him anyway?

I agree with you about Smith's lack of enthusiasm for being a Celtic. One minute he wants a buyout and one he doesn't. One time he says Celtics are his choice and the next, he wanted Cleveland.
The advantage that the Cavs have with Smith is that after playing for them last season he is already familiar with the offense for the most part while Mikki and Marbury have to learn ours from scratch.
I like Mikki Moore and he may fit our needs better than Smith. I like his energy and work ethic and the fact that he really, really wanted to join the Celtics.
The Cavs will be tough. But I find it hard to believe that JS will be a difference maker.
