Lakers, Worried About Their Bench, Pursued Joe Smith

First we had Mark Heisler of the LA Times making fun of the Celtics' bench. Now Bill Plaschke, also from the Times, returns the favor by arguing that Kobe is justified in hoisting up 30 shots per game when the alternative is passing the ball to one of the schmos on the Lakers' bench. He even suggests that maybe the Lakers made a mistake in trading Radmonowhatsit.

Meanwhile, the Times' Mike Bresnahan tells us that the Lakers made a bid for Joe Smith, but lost out.

Oh darn.

I think the Lakeshow should be a bit concerned. I really, honestly think we are a better team. The key however is this Lex: turnovers. That big game in February we lost against them; turnovers. The crushing loss to the Spurs at home-turnovers (one big Ray Allen one at the end). We really need to cut down on those. If we can, we'll be alot better off...

I hardly think Joe Smith is going to be a difference maker for any team in the playoffs. He sure as hell wasn't one last year for the Cavs.

Jamey, I agree. Turnovers and then execution. You know, doc and now his players are fond of saying "the offense will take care of itself." Down the stretch, that hasn't been the case. In the playoffs, the offense down the stretch was give it to paul pierce and see if he can score. They need to start executing . . . without turning it over.

Kid, yeah, Smith didn't play well against the Cs in the first two game of the ECFs. Thereafter he did. Was he an impact guy? one game he was--7/8 or something.

I'll be curious to see what MM can do. PJ hardly played against ATL. So if MM can make an immediate impact in the first round, he'll be off to a good start.

I would love nothing better than to see Kobe melt down in the first round because he has no help. Maybe he'll go off on another tirade and demand the Lakers get a 3rd superstar because the Celtics got 2 for Pierce and the Lakers only got him one in Gasol (Although, it is debatable whether camal face is a real superstar or not).

Have I mentioned lately how very much I hate the Lakers? Why is it that every time lately I check to see if they lost they are playing the Wolves or Bobcats or Grizzlies or Kings or Clippers?
