A Little Message from Our Bookends

Since about the middle of December, we've heard a lot of talk in Boston about Joe Smith. I believe that's when the Joe Smith rumors started. "Oh, how great it would be to add Joe Smith to our roster," many Celtic fans said. Last night those fans may have received a little message from our resident bookends, Leon Powe and Glen Davis.

Why are y'all pining for another back-up power forward? You already have two very capable players at that position, three if you count Brian Scalabrine. What you needed, Boston, was a legitimate seven-footer, not another guy 6-10 or under. PJ Brown was a fine addition, because he was 6-11, and more than capable of holding down the five-spot.

Adding Joe Smith would have been adding a redundancy. Giving him minutes over Powe and Davis questionable. Mikki Moore, on the other hand, filled a viable need. He brings something to the roster not already present.

I'm left to wonder whether Powe and Davis saw last night's match-up as less about Moore v. Smith than about our Bookends v. Joe Smith. If so, I'd have to agree they had a point, and made it rather persuasively.

I love the Moore signing. I don't think Smith would have come here anyway. Mikki fits our team. He fills a need. He also brings a lot of energy and a great work ethic. I think Danny made the right move.
