That move shaved $1.8 million off the payroll and they had $1.7 million left after signing free agents Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva. Brandon Bass and Glen Davis had been their primary targets. Bass signed with Orlando and Davis is a restricted free agent. The Boston Celtics made it clear they planned to match any offer under $5.6 million.
