Why Lakers Fans are a Joke

Last week was Magic Johnson's birthday (Happy birthday, #32). I chose to commemorate the occasion by posing a question to my co-worker, the Laker fan. Why do you suppose, I asked, the Lakers were able to start the 1986-87 season 32-8, largely with the same line-up that had finished the 1985-86 season losing four out of five games to the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference Finals? After all, I noted, the Lakers were given up and left for dead by the pundits, and, indeed, the Lakers themselves almost broke up their team in a Roy-Tarpley-for-James-Worthy trade.

"Fewer four on ones," was the response I got.

Say what?

"Magic had a bad habit of going four on one in 1986. He started sharing the ball better in 1987."

Oh. My. God.

Since their team is such a joke, it follows that their fans would be as well.
