Garnett to Play Same Exhibition Schedule as Always

WALTHAM —The five-on-five pickup games were taking place on a daily basis at the Celtics’ training facility earlier this month. The same players were showing up on the court to get ready for training camp, which was scheduled to open this morning in Newport, R.I. Then, one day last week, a newcomer to the informal preseason scrimmages wanted to take part as well. Kevin Garnett, who played only four games after the All-Star break last season due to a knee injury, was back on the court, taking a first step in his return to a prominent spot in the Celtics’ lineup. “I think he is ready,’’ said Ainge. “I think he can play. We have every intention of him being involved in every drill at every practice. Our intention is to go forward.“We plan on having him participate in all practices and play the same amount of exhibition games as he’s played in the past.’’
