Your earning potential is a short career. But I think that Marquis is a pretty bright kid and I think he understands that a good year with our team this year could really catapult him into a better circumstance than where he’s coming out as a free agent right now. Even though he could make more money somewhere else right now, I think that if he has a great year here he could make a lot more money somewhere else (next year).

Like I was saying last week, Marquis comes from the James Posey School of Business. If you can't make big money this summer, play for a team where you can market your skills to the rest of the NBA and get paid next summer. The same rationale underlay Glen Davis' decision to sign a two-year rookie contract, when Ainge wanted him to sign a 3-year contract.
Let's just hope Marquis plays as well as those two did in a contract year.
