Parish Withdraws Contract Demands

Summer 1983

Center Robert Parish apparently has withdrawn his demand that the Celtics either renegotiate or trade him before the start of camp. Parish, who has three years remaining on a deal that nets him $650,000 a year, said Monday that he would sit out unless his pact was upgraded immediately.

Celtic assistant general manager Jan Volk talked with Parish's new agent, Wayne Traynham, yesterday and revealed, "Robert plans to live up to his obligations and, at some point, we will explore the possibility of an extension of his contract. Celtics co-owner Alan Cohen added, "A contract is a contract and is to be honored. Outside of a threat, we would certainly not be adverse to discussion of an extension."
