Paul Still Speaking the Truth

“It wasn’t really interesting,” Pierce said of the Finals. “I watched when [the Lakers’] Derek Fisher hit the three, and then I was like, ‘I don’t need to watch no more.

I don't write about Paul Pierce as much as I do some of the other Celtics. Nor do I write about him as much as I should. But my way of thinking closely resembles his on a number of fronts. I'm not quite the prognosticator he is. I won't predict banner 18 until it's pretty much in the bag.

Still, he's said some things about the Magic series that led me to believe that the Celtics didn't just ran out of gas in games 6 and 7. I always piss off a few Celtics fans when I say this, but I'm gonna say it anyway: Losing to the Magic involved a cost-benefit analysis on the part of the green. No it may not have been the most important factor. Yes, the Magic deserved to win. But at a very human level, the C's just didn't feel like playing the Cavs for all the money in the East as the Celtics' roster and rotation were then constituted.

I don't have a problem with this. A lot of Celtics' do. But when you got Brian Scalabrine coming off the bench as your only reliable big, and this is a guy who couldn't even make the active roster for the NBA Finals one year earlier, it's understandable that some Celtics' players may have seen a Cavs-Celtics match-up as more trouble than it was worth.

In any event, much like Paul, I saw no reason in watching the Finals either. Only difference between me and Paul was that I didn't watch a single second of it.

The other thing to note is that Paul presumably didn't watch because he was disgusted. I'm glad to hear this. You might think, he's a celtic, what's the big deal? Yeah, he's a celtic. But you can't gauge a celtic until you understand their hatred for the purple. I'm thinking Paul's level of hatred is pretty high. Let's hope Sheed and Squisy learn to hate too.

It's also funny that the basketball universe has returned to purple v. green. Back when the celtics sucked, people used to ask me why i hated the purple so much. Easy, i said. I'm a celtics fan, and you simply have no other choice, except not being a celtics fan, in which case, feel free to love on the purple. But if you root for the green, you gotta hate the purple

As I browse the boards of Celtics Nation this morning, I notice that the legions of believers in a second gunman are growing. One fans predicts KG's knee injury will force him to miss most of the season. How on earth can the celtics fan base be kept out of the loop on such an important issue.

Needless to say, this just pisses me off.

Maybe this is the state of things to come, news wise, since newspapers are a dying breed. Still, the sports pages seem to drive traffic. So you'd think those pages would want to dig up some news.
