Danny Ferry's signing of Leon Powe represents a risk indeed. Powe is in the midst of recovering from a complex and career-threatening left knee surgery and likely won't see the floor in a game until after the New Year. Being realistic, which the team is trying to be, Powe might not be able to contribute on a meaningful level until the end of the upcoming season.
Right now, Powe is not just coming back from tearing his anterior cruciate ligament but also from the complicated microfracture procedure that he had on May 5 after hurting the knee in Game 2 of the Celtics' first-round playoff series with the Chicago Bulls in April. Microfracture is used to treat cartilage injuries by drilling small holes in the knee to create scar tissue that hopefully mimics cartilage. It has worked miracles for numerous NBA players, including Amare Stoudemire and Zach Randolph, but also hasn't worked and ended careers.

I must have been snoozing when this first got published.

Me too. I sure hope Leon gets a chance to play again, even if it is for the hated Cavs. He's a good guy and deserves another chance.
I agree.
