Celtics Down Lakers Again

1983-84 Boston Celtics
Preseason

The Celtics flew home overnight and have the day off today. In last night's game at the Forum, the Celtics scored a 129-126 victory, overcoming a 15-point, third-period deficit. The Celtics were led in scoring by Cedric Maxwell (30 points), McHale (29) and Bird (25).

Keith Wilkes had 20 points for the Lakers, who were severely undermanned without Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, keith Rambis, and unsigned guard Byron Scott. Laker center Swen Nater, recently acquired from the San Diego Clippers in the Norm Nixon deal, had 18 points before fouling out. The Celtics were missing Robert Parish.

It was obvious that Jones wanted to win the game and went with his best players through most of the second half. Pat Riley, Jones' counterpart, also used his best through much of the final period and for all of the last 6 minutes.
