29th in the League in Rebounding

For all the depth the Celtics believed they had, they rank 29th in the league in rebounding. The absence of Davis limits Rivers's options with his big men and it's becoming apparent that he doesn't trust Shelden Williams for late-game minutes. All nine of Williams's minutes came in the first half, while the Celtics were in dire need of dependable post play against Curry, the suddenly All-Star-caliber Harrington, or nifty undersized center David Lee.

"Baby gives us a force, he brings strength," Garnett said about an hour after draining the winning shot yesterday at the buzzer. "He brings us versatility, the fact you can play different lineups with myself, Rasheed, Shelden. When we get him back along with Tony Allen, it will make us a better team."

How things change. A couple of weeks ago, we were a team filled with multi-talented giants, and now we're the second worst rebounding team in the league. A couple of weeks ago, many Celtics fans believed Shelden Williams had more to offer than Glen Davis. Now Celtics players are looking forward to the return of Glen Davis and (gasp) Tony Allen.

This may be a long, disappointing season, gang.

I have said it many times, but rebounding is desire and effort. Whenever you want to see if a team is putting in the effort, check the rebounding stats. It takes effort to grab a rebound, especially on the offensive end. The Celtics just aren't focused and aren't putting out the effort.

I agree. But I also found the quote from ray allen interesting: I try not to judge KG. I'm just happy to have him out there.

Yeah, KG at 60% is still better than shelden, most of the time anyway.

Proof of what FCF said is jim obrien's teams. Undersized, but good rebounding teams because they wanted to be good rebounding teams.

We can also see it when a guard like Rondo who is probably one of the smallest guys on the floor getting more rebounds than centers or power forwards. He wanted those rebounds more and put out the effort to get them.

Yup

I'm 44 and I could exert myself on the glass better than Sheed.

Sheed did have 13 boards the other day. But scroll through the recent games (http://lexnihilnovi.blogspot.com/search/label/2009-10%20Box%20Scores), and see the lack of boards overall from him as of late

It's hard to grab rebounds when you are standing out beyond the 3 point line. He doesn't play in the paint much and should. I don't know if that is on Doc for hoping he will spread the floor and keeping him out there or if Sheed just is deciding that's where he wants to be.

It's still early. As I noticed with the soon to be 83-84 posts, they lost 4 in a row and everyone talked about the sky falling.

You know, I was just thinking that very thing as I was reading your latest post from 83-84

I haven't lost faith. I just like to vent now and again.
