In the movie "The Doors," Oliver Stone takes the position that Jim Morrison's music-making career was in the crapper by the late 1960s, his talent basically drowned in booze and drugs. My first thought was "what have you been smoking, Oliver?" LA Woman, the Doors last album, contains several gems and Morrison's voice is as powerful as ever.
So it was with that mindset that I listened to the above recording, a late 60s offering. Now it all makes sense. At about the 1 minute marker, you hear Jim's extracurricular activities catching up with him. His voice is indeed shot or close thereto. The version of "Build Me a Woman" that follows "Peace Frog" is no less sad. I get it now, Oliver. My bad.
