Thumbnail image for wallace.jpgSince the end of the Finals, the Celtics have made it clear that they believe Rasheed Wallace will retire this summer. Celtics president Danny Ainge was more emphatic about it this morning on WEEI's Dennis and Callahan Show.
"Rasheed has decided that he's retiring," Ainge said. "He's going to retire."
Wallace's agent Bill Strickland, however, was noncommittal when reached by phone this morning.
"I won't confirm or deny that that's the case," Strickland said.
Strickland said he was unaware of Ainge's comments and that he only knew what had been done on his side. Last month, on the night of the NBA Draft, Strickland said, "If I had to bet my money, I would say he's done."
Yesterday, as he was being introduced, new Celtics big man Jermaine O'Neal said he sent Wallace a text message asking the 15-year veteran to return for one more run. Wallace didn't respond to the text.
The team, according to a league source, just reached agreement with Nate Robinson on a two-year deal that will pay him approximately $4 million per season.
Agent Aaron Goodwin, who had told the Herald early in the week that a deal could be reached by the end of the week, turned out to be quite the sage. Agreement came after a brief slowdown in talks on Thursday.
