PUSH TURNS TO SHOVE: RILEY ACCUSES CELTICS OF INTENTIONAL ROUGHING

1984 NBA Finals

Lakers coach Pat Riley sounds like he wants to turn this NBA Championship Series into his own version of West Side Story.

Forget about the Celtics vs. the Lakers. What we have in Game 5 of this 2-2 best-of-seven playoff series tonight (9 o'clock, Channel 10) more closely resembles the Jets vs. the Sharks.

Riley was still boiling yesterday because of the way Kevin McHale prevented Kurt Rambis from completing a breakaway layup attempt in the third quarter of Wednesday's 129-125 overtime victory by the Celtics. Rambis was in the air when McHale caught him around the neck with his left arm, causing Rambis to fall hard to the court.

''If one our our guys did something like that and got thrown out, I wouldn't have said anything,'' Riley said. ''He'd have deserved it. But, you know something, one of my guys wouldn't do that.
