Lest You Forget, Rick Carlisle had Some Game

January 22,1986

K.C. Jones was the best basketball coach on the planet yesterday. While Riley inexplicably buried Maurice Lucas (six minutes, none in the second half), Jones went to his second unit and found ways to build a lead with folks named Jerry Sichting, Rick Carlisle and David Thirdkill on the floor. Boston's coach could not miss.

The Celtics' outside shooters were equally torrid. With McHale on the shelf and Parish in foul trouble, the Celtics abandoned their post-up game and kicked the ball around for a succession of wide-open jumpers. DJ (23 points), Scott Wedman, Sichting and Carlisle made LA pay for its sagging defense.

Carlisle (10 points in 11 minutes) and Wedman shot the Celtics to a five- point lead early in the second. Parish played less than two minutes of the period before picking up his third foul, but it didn't matter. Walton (10 points, 7 rebounds in 26 minutes) was there.

Boston led by 10 after Carlisle swished a hideous shot-clock-beating fallaway from the left corner. "It would have been a three-pointer, but my feet are too big (15 1/2) for me to be outside the three-point line and still stay inbounds," joked Carlisle. "I learned the shot from DJ."

I've been try to carve out some time to watch game 6. I wonder if #34 got into the game at the end?

You know, that other number 34.

This blog has become a tweeting service of sorts. Much easier than actually thinking out and then writing out full-length posts.

I still laugh at the fact that I was paid good money at my last job to do nothing, and thus I blogged all day long.

I like Dirk.

Don't get me wrong.

But has he ever won back-to-back-to-back MVPs?

Ok. Forget about 1984-86.

I'm not even sure Dirk has ever had a year like 1987 or 1988.

You put Dirk on the Celtics in 1979-80.

Do they win 60 games and almost make it to the Finals?

I agree lex, either way let's go mavericks!

Can Mr. Carlisle and Son of Larry stop the LeBron express?

Dirk as Larry's offspring.

Now that I like...

Starting to watch game 6 of the 1986 finals

McHale--9 rebounds with 5 minutes to go in the first half.

9!

No one on the celtics squad could grab that many in the entire game, unless it was rajon rondo on a good night...

I dunno, kg settled a bit in the playoffs, but yeah!

Bruins!!!

Lex said...

Ok, you are right. KG grabbed 10 boards or more pretty steadily against Miami. But it sure didn't seem like it. Instead, it seems like he's a shadow of his former self.

Anyway, Carlisle got in at the end of game 6, then promptly hit an 18 footer followed by a 20 footer.

That was rick.

Wedman, with two broken ribs, even got in.

Hadn't played a second since the Milwaukee series.

I have no recollection of his playing.

I must have been 3 sheets to the wind by the time Scotty got in.
