Do You Still Detest this Man?
Back in the day, it would have been impossible for me to describe how much I disliked Pat Riley. It was something of a visceral magnitude. Mostly because it was Pat Riley and his teams that stood between the Boston Celtics and their next championship.
Be that as it may, when you win a bunch of championships, move on, win a few more, and, at the end of the day, keep multiple teams in contention for the better part of 25 years, well, you need to respect that.
In June 2006, the Miami Heat were the best team in basketball. By July 31, 2007, the day Danny Ainged changed the face of the NBA, the Heat were on their way out.
This didn't stop Pat Riley.
He sucked it up and tried to figure out his next move.
The move that would put him back on top once the Big 3 aged sufficiently to allow for another team to takeover the East.
Pat Riley is never satisfied.
Never.
You need to respect that.
