Jeff Green Mania: Teetering on the Edge
Being a basketball fan was easier when I was younger.
Games were rarely on TV.
I never went to watch them in-person.
The NBA was basically me and a box score (OK, and a few basketball cards. Well, a LOT of basketball cards).
I became a master of the box score. What did we shoot from the field? What did they shoot from the field? Who won the rebounding battle? Did we tally more than 20 dimes? Did the bench score more than 20 points? Were the starters forced to log heavy minutes? Damn, I could analyze those things until the cows came home.
Then one day the NBA woke up and found itself a marketer.
This has made my life more complicated. Much more complicated.
Case in point.
I once bought a Rasheed Wallace jersey shirt. I'll never wear it again.
Ditto for my Shaq jersey shirt (though, as you will soon see, I'm harboring some faint hope that Shaq may be this year's PJ brown).
Even though I already own a home Rondo jersey shirt, I just had to have a grey one. You know, he's been my MVP candidate for some time now.
So I should be good on shirts, right?
For the last two days I've been resisting the urge to add to my wardrobe.
Seems that Lex has concluded that Jeff Green will be "all that" and thus I better start showing my support before I get accused of jumping on the bandwagon.
I'm gonna keep trying to exercise willpower. But I can feel my pre-frontal cortex starting to weaken.
