CELTICS OBTAIN CAVS' WEDMAN FOR QUICK TILLIS

The Boston Celtics bolstered their already imposing frontcourt last night by acquiring Scott Wedman from the Cleveland Cavaliers for the team's No. 1 draft choice in 1983, rookie Darren Tillis and cash.

Wedman, 30, averaged 18.1 points and 5.9 rebounds a game for the Cavs and joins Cedric Maxwell, Larry Bird and Kevin McHale in the Boston forecourt. McHale is eligible for free agency after this season and has yet to come to an agreement with the team.

In his first eight seasons, all but one at Kansas City, Wedman averaged a solid 16 points a game, twice averaging an even 19 with the Kings.

Tillis, who played his college ball at Cleveland State and was a surprise No. 1 pick by Boston last June, played in only 15 games for the Celtics, averaging 2.9 minutes per game. Tillis made 7-of-23 field goal attempts and 2-of-6 free throws while grabbing nine rebounds.
