CELTICS WIN COIN TOSS

NEW YORK

The Celtics won today's celebrated flip of the coin contest with the Utah Jazz, thus earning the right to select first in the NBA college player draft on June 10.

Utah general manager Frank Layden, in a phone hookup with the NBA office, called "heads," but commissioner Larry O Brien, after flipping a coin, and making a catch before it hit the floor, declared, "tails" in favor of the Celtics. Celtics general manager Red Auerbach was present for the brief ceremony.

Only moments earlier Utah had won the original toss to determine which team would have the right to make the call that decided the team winning the right to the first selection in the draft.
