Chad Ford reports that Boston remains interested in Sam Cassell. Unlike the earlier Yahoo! report, however, Ford says Boston isn't offering much of anything. Instead, they are just waiting to see if he gets bought out.
My guess is that Danny is betting that nobody else offers anything enticing either. Indeed, offering Pollard and a first round pick would carry risk with it, too. The Celtics would be gambling that Pollard's ability to guard bigs in the playoffs could be replaced by existing players on the roster or by a separate free agent signing.
As for the lost first round pick, again the thought is that the Celtics need to keep roster spots open for veterans interested in joining the Celtics this summer.
It all sounds like a game of poker to me, a game where Danny hopes he's not left holding the bag.
