I actually understand.
I also think having Bill Russell on board as the senior-ambassador for the GREEN has given Paul, Kevin, and Ray reason to pause and remember that the Celtics heritage goes far beyond the Larry Bird Era.
The heritage is deep, and, for lack of a better word, it is not just white.
It's black, too.
Once you realize that, you start seeing the beauty of the later stars such as Jo Jo, Silas, Tiny, DJ, the Chief, and even Cornbread.
The Celtics somehow acquired a bad rap during the Bird Era.
But I always point out that the winningest coach of those Celtics teams was black.
He was also the last black coach to win an NBA championship, at least until June, that is.
