Giddens, Go Dominate
After one year in the NBA, it was becoming clear to many observers that New Jersey Nets rookie Richard Jefferson was ahead of the learning curve, while Boston Celtics rookie Kedrick Brown was behind it.
This was another bitter pill for many Celtics fans to swallow, as the Nets selected Jefferson two slots after the Celtics chose Brown.
Celtics management never said so publicly, but sources indicated that they had a little conversation with Mr. Brown after his rookie year.
It went something like this:
"Kedrick, watch this tape. You have every bit as much athletic talent as this guy (Jefferson). This is what we expect from you. Go show us you can do it in the Summer League. Go dominate."
Kedrick failed to dominate, instead taking another step toward sealing his fate in New England.
It's too early to say JR Giddens is behind the curve. But count me as a member of his fan club. We've all heard about his freakish wingspan and defensive ability. What we haven't heard much about is his ability to score from all over the court.
Hmmm.
Bench player who can defend and score in bundles.
Sound like someone a team we know could use?
Let's see if any of this talk gets borne out by Mr. Giddens' play in the D-League.
