December may be Walkertime

If we've learned one thing about Glenn Rivers during his tenure as Celtics coach, it's that the role of the swingman off the bench is critical to the success of the offense. When the swingman is playing good D and scoring in double digits, the Celtics click and usually rack up a win.

When the swingman off the bench struggles, so do the Celtics.

It says here that the first African American coach to win an NBA championship since KC Jones has Tony Allen on a short leash. In the past week, Tony's minutes have been reduced from over 20 to exactly 10. Mr. Allen understands that his struggles won't be tolerated forever, as he has two talented rookies looking over his shoulder.

I'm not sure Doc will wait until December to make a move. But whenever the Bill "T-Bone" Walker starts to see some action, keep in mind a second motive that might be in play:

Showcasing him for a trade that would return a wily and reliable veteran for the stretch run.
