Amare Explains the Trade: How Do You Beat Boston?

The Suns sent guards Raja Bell and Sean Singletary along with forward/center Boris Diaw to the Charlotte Bobcats in exchange for high-scoring shooting guard Jason Richardson, forward Jared Dudley and a 2010 second round draft pick.

While not as transparent a reaction to the Lakers acquisition of Pau Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies as their deal for Shaquille O'Neal last season, it was a reaction nonetheless.

The Lakers are the measuring stick for everybody else in the conference. If you can't beat them now, you better figure out how.

Suns center Amare Stoudemire set the bar even higher.

"The Lakers are a strong team, but the Celtics won the title last year so they're the team to beat," Stoudemire said. "The lakers are good, they're playing well but the question is how do you beat Boston? I'm pretty sure the Lakers are thinking the same thing: 'How do we beat Boston?"
'

Looks like Amare and Dr. Phil have reached the same conclusion.

Derek Fisher and Jordan Farmar are having trouble stopping people and the defense as a whole has been anything but cohesive.

"We have enough offensive firepower. We could shoot 20 percent and still put up 100 points. That's just the firepower we have."

Hmm.

Let me guess.

Not exactly the type of statement Phil was hoping to hear from his star player.

Did these people learn nothing about defense from the finals? The only team I can think of that might allow 100 points on 20% shooting is the warriors.

LOL

Amare doesn't play defense himself and may be on the trading block soon.

Hey Kid,

Ya think?

That would be a revolutionary move.

Any thoughts on moves the C's might make, ie, acquisitions?

i dont like Amare. great offensive player, but a me-first, zero-to-nothing defense guy...

I don't see the Celtics making any personnel moves until February in my opinion.

Right, but what about in feb?

PJ returns?

A three for 1 maybe?

- you know you're in trouble when Gasol and Odom are the best big defenders you have in the clutch

Funny.

Bynum wants a max contract but the coach won't even play him when it counts.

Maybe the next Wilt Chamberlain ought to think about performing before he asks for a handout...
