Doc Goes Ali on the Celtics

“He’s a good communicator,” Ray Allen said. “We can relate to him as a human being. Coaches have to find different ways to motivate players. Doc finds new ways to relate the same message. It’s six months of regular season basketball. You have to be innovative and make it fun.” Sometimes, Allen said, that means referencing Bill Belichick. Other times it’s Muhammad Ali. There is the whole ubuntu thing, and while it may seem hokey to those outside the Celtics locker room, it still holds resonance with the players inside.

Hold on now.

Ubuntu is one thing. Before last year I never heard of it.

But I thought I was the only one going Ali-Frazier on the Celtics?

Seriously, though, I wonder if Doc compared the last year's Celtics-Pistons games to any particular Ali bouts, cuz they sure had Ali-Frazier written all over them (with the Celts being Ali, of course).

This year isn't giving me an Ali sort of feel. Celtics and Cavs feel more like Hagler-Hearns.

Celtics-Lakers?

Talk to me on December 26.

After the Lakers loss last night, maybe they will turn out to be a Gerry Cooney type.

Lots of hype but not much else...
